LPRFC 78 Kenosha 10
Following a couple of warm-up scrimmages, this was Park’s D4 first league game of the season and they got off to a flying start. With new combinations still getting accustomed to each other, Park started quickly but lacked a little inaccuracy early in the game.
A penalty try after just 4 minutes put Park ahead; Huschen being high tackled just short of the goal line. Together with Rosenfeld at 10 and Barnett outside him, he formed a triumvate of experience down Park’s spine.
A strong and bulky pack gave Park the platform they needed and despite a windy day making lineouts difficult, Park was able to at least gain good ball from their rucks and scrums. Only a series of penalties from Kenosasha slowed down Park’s delivery at the breakdown.
Thomas and Kishore splitting scrumhalf duties both controlled the tempo and Thomas was effective at finding touch when the Kenosha discretions allowed him use of his foot.
Rosenfeld scored Park’s second try and a Sampey, eager to join the line from fullback, set up Callovini for the third before scoring one of his own.
Jewell, active from the base of the scrum but also finding space in the open areas scored the first of his two tries before two late first half Kenoshe tries gave Park at least a little pause for thought.
The second half brought many early changes but Park did not skip a beat. Defensively Moran was active at the breakdown with a couple of turnovers and Rosenfeld scored his second try intercepting an errant Kenosha pass.
Sampey completed his hat-trick, Jewell scored his second and Hoedeman and Barnett opened their club accounts, the latter completing a well rehearsed pattern of play with a 50m break.
With many new players stepping up for the first time, it was a great start to the season.
